Internal Review for National Mangrove Policy Framework
8 May 2025, Honiara, Solomon Islands - The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Disaster Management today hosted an internal review meeting on the proposed National Mangrove Policy Framework.
The policy aims to guide the sustainable management and conservation of mangroves and associated Blue Carbon ecosystems, ensuring that both environmental protection and community livelihoods are upheld.
According to the Environment Conservation Division Chief Conservation Officer, Agnetha Vave-Karamui, mangrove ecosystems are important for the Solomon Islands and are crucial for local communities’ food and livelihood.
She added that the meeting is one of many consultation phases involving various stakeholders collaborating to develop a mangrove policy for the Government, with clear guidelines for mangrove management expected to be completed later this year.
The Mangrove Management Policy is scheduled for completion and submission to cabinet in September.
